A great ministry tool…

On Monday mornings, I usually like to wake up watching CNN to catch up on what happened over the past weekend and what is coming up for the next week. The last few times that I have turned on CNN, I have noticed them running an advertisement for a link on their website regarding heroes. Today, I went on the website and found it to be a great ministry tool. I would encourage you to check it out at: http://edition.cnn.com/SPECIALS/2007/cnn.heroes/

I did however have this thought as I spent some time on the website — why are all the Christ followers lagging behind the world in this new found mantra that seems to be coming out from our world of making a difference in it? Are we scared to try? Are we worried about the cost? Are we just too comfortable?

Here is the tag line from the CNN site - “Take Action. When disaster strikes or horrible events unfold, there are opportunities to effect change. CNN is helping to empower the individual who has asked, “What can I do?” Bad things happen in the world everyday. But good can result and one person can impact the world.”

Can I be a “hero” or simply a true Christ-follower today?

  1. VERY cool link. I’m thinking I’ll try applying the idea/concept this year. Throughout high school I’d often see/hear such prophetic/brilliant ways of exhorting the best within people and it more than often came from some new age/feel good motivation. The question of “Why isn’t the Church doing these things?” would come up often for me. I’d wonder why I wouldn’t meet Christians at Red Cross events, social action rallies or at Kid Help Phone meetings. How different would it look if the Church was involved? Does the Church need to create/run something separate so the name /picture of Jesus can be used?

Thanks for checking the blog out…I would love to hear how it works if you try this in the Vancouver area. I think the church is too worried about getting people to sign up and fill positions inside the church that we forget to deal with the important things that God is calling us to in the world.
