A prayer for Canada…

Today, is the country of Canada’s 140 birthday. It is the country that I call home and today I am very proud of being a Canadian) The next few days will see many Canadians celebrate the freedom that we enjoy as a country. (It is not like the excitement that the 4th of July brings but none-the-less today is a day that Canadians celebrate being Canadian.)

Our national anthem was first sung in 1880 and in 1908 a man named Stanley Weir wrote a poem which would make up the four verses of our national anthem. I will include the first verse (which you hear at sporting events) and the fourth verse which is my prayer today for my country. If you have a minute today, pray for my country - Canada.

O Canada! Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North, strong and free!
From far and wide, O Canada,
We stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land glorious and free
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

Ruler supreme, who hearest humble prayer,
Hold our dominion within thy loving care;
Help us to find, O God, in thee
A lasting, rich reward,
As waiting for the Better Day,
We ever stand on guard.

- Matt
