I got your back…
I need to admit something that my wife and I are drawn to certain reality shows. I think that our attraction to these shows is simply because it paints a great image of what people are really like. Now, I don’t TIVO or record any of these shows but I do like “finding” them on tube when I can.
This week was the release of a new show that was featuring Shaq. I am not a big Shaq fan but his show was in regards to childhood obesity and that was what drew my attention. I must admit that I was pleasantly surprised at Shaq and have gained a new level of respect for him. It will be interesting to see the impact that he has on these kids.
There was moments in the show that were profound for me as a parent. There were times where you could see that the parents were without hope and just seeing Shaq brought this great amount of hope for them. There was a moment in the show that gave me a picture of who God is - let me explain.
The kids had to get tested physically by doing the President’s challenge which recommends a certain range in specific activities. The kids needed to run a mile and the kids were struggling. There was a parent who had tears running down his face saying to his kid - “I got your back, I got your back - you can do it.”
Wow (I even have tears in my eyes right now) - what a great reminder of who God is to us, his children. Our God is the God who is saying, “I got your back, Matt” My mind quickly went to a picture I can remember growing up from the 1992 Barcelona Olympics of Derek Redmond. http://www.olympic.org/uk/athletes/profiles/bio_uk.asp?PAR_I_ID=65848
Today, may that be a great picture of who God is for you today, that is my prayer for you today.
