Complete Control

Yesterday, as i was on my way to work, i saw this woman walking her three black labs, pushing her son on his bicycle (you know those new trikes that have the handle for mom & dad to steer with) and carrying another kid in one of those Kangaroo pouch carriers. I couldn’t believe it. She appeared to have complete control over the entire situation. I was in awe. Although, I began to wonder if her entire walk was really that peaceful. Or did the dogs stop to sniff at a tree and get tangled in their leashes or did the little boy on the bicycle get tired and stop peddling which meant that mom was left to do all the work, or did the baby in the pouch got hot or uncomfortable and begin to squirm and cry. I think it’s perhaps pretty easy to appear, at least for a little while, as though we have it all together but you and i both know that life is very rarely neat and tidy. What if we just let people see our junk, the things that confuse us and frustrate us, rather than trying to appear as though we have it all together? What if we acknowledged that we don’t have it all under control and asked others for help? What would happen if we all abandoned our efforts to try and appear “put together” and really embraced our need for grace and forgiveness. I know i’m a mess…and trying to live in the control of my Creator! How ‘bout you?
